Out of Your Hands is a project we’ve been working on with The Telecommunications UK Fraud Forum (TUFF) and Financial Fraud Action UK. The newly relaunched website and surrounding programme aim at educate young people on how to avoid becoming a victim of mobile phone theft, crime and fraud.
The site contains resources for Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 in a variety of subjects: English, Drama, PSHE, ICT, Mathematics and Business Studies. The site is split into three sections:
- Out of Your Hands – looking at the causes of and methods to prevent mobile phone theft
- Out of Your Pocket – looking at the methods fraudsters use to hack into your bank account or steal money from you
- Out of Your Control – looking at the ways in which our online information and activities can make us victims of identity theft and how to minimise the chances of becoming a victim and limit the damage an identity thief can cause.
There are film clips, worksheets and in-class and take-home resources for each section. There are plenty of examples of what to look out for to avoid becoming a victim of fraudsters, thieves, scammers and con artists. We learned a lot conducting the research for the site and are sure you’ll find some nuggets in there too.
